Dr James Gunton

Dr Gunton attained a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery with honours from Flinders Medical School in 2009. After finishing his advanced cardiology training, Dr Gunton completed a fellowship in cardiac imaging at Flinders Medical Centre specifically focussing on stress echocardiography and transoesophageal echocardiography. In 2018, he undertook a fellowship in advanced heart failure and transplant medicine at the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne, Victoria.
Dr Gunton is now a consultant cardiologist at Flinders Medical Centre specializing in heart failure medicine. He is a member of the heart failure unit that strives to make Flinders a leader in South Australia in both clinical work and research in the field of advanced heart failure. He will be providing Cardiology consultation to Victor Harbor and Goolwa regions.
He has a keen interest in research having completed a PhD in laboratory sciences. His current research areas include heart failure treatment, cardiac imaging, and public health. He is an associate lecturer at Flinders University and views education as a key component to medical practice.
