Dr Tonchev completed advanced training in cardiology and fellowships in cardiac electrophysiology and pacing at prestigious institutions. At Hadassah Medical Center in Jerusalem, a world-renowned institution, he trained under leading specialists in arrhythmia management, gaining expertise in complex electrophysiology procedures and pacing therapies. He then pursued further advanced training at The Royal Melbourne Hospital, one of Australia’s premier cardiac centres, where he worked alongside world-leading electrophysiology experts, honing his skills in advanced catheter ablation techniques and device management.
After his fellowship training, Dr Tonchev served as the Head of the Arrhythmia Unit at a leading hospital in Eastern Europe, where he further enhanced his procedural skills and leadership in managing complex cardiac rhythm disorders.
Most recently, Dr Tonchev was appointed to the Integrated Cardiovascular Clinical Network SA, where he is focused on developing a fast-track virtual electrophysiology clinic and ensuring timely care for patients with rhythm disorders across all regions of South Australia.
His expertise spans the management of cardiac arrhythmias, catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation, complex atrial arrhythmias, and cutting-edge pacing techniques.
Dr Tonchev is also actively engaged in innovative and impactful research as a PhD candidate at Flinders University, focusing on the mechanisms of atrial fibrillation and innovative pacing strategies. He has also published numerous publications in high-impact journals and regularly presents at leading international conferences
