Echocardiogram
An Echocardiogram (Echo) is an ultrasound of your heart. It provides essential information about the structure and function of your heart.
How is the test performed?
You will be asked to lie on your left side and a water soluble gel will be applied to your chest.
A probe called a transducer will be placed over different areas of your chest.
Images and measurements of your heart will be recorded for the cardiologist to review.
How long will it take?
Approximately 45 mins
Is any preparation required?
There is no particular preparation needed.
You will be asked to remove clothing from the waist up and can be provided with a gown.
When will I know the results?
The test results will be reviewed by a cardiologist and a report sent to your referring doctor.
Please bring the following to your appointment
- Medicare card
- Any concession or health insurance cards
- A current referral from your GP or specialist (if not already provided)
Fees apply and full payment is expected on the day of the test.
