Device Checks
Pacemaker, loop recorders and defibrillators require regular reviews and checking after they are inserted.
What is involved?
After implant, a pacemaker’s functions need to be checked and sometimes fine tuned.
During checks, the doctor will determine if the device detected or treated any abnormal heart rhythms and will check the battery.
You may be asked to uncover a part of your clothing to reveal the pacemaker or defibrillator.
Sometimes, a programmer is used to review your device and can be used to make changes to the settings. The information is accessed by placing a ‘wand’ over the pacemaker to connect to the tiny computer within the pacemaker casing.
